Ethics

MMO Folklorist is a website about the MMORPG genre of video games.

We publish features, including reviews, previews, and opinion pieces. We also create guides and resources to help players. We are not a news outlet.

Editorial Standards

All content published on MMO Folklorist represents the opinions of the writer as honestly as possible.

Unless otherwise stated, these opinions are formed based on our own experiences with the product. By the very nature of the games covered on the website, no one writer has complete knowledge of any singular game, let alone all games in the genre. We will always endeavour to research each topic as thoroughly as possible and will state recognised shortcomings within each article where necessary.

Reviews are graded out of ten. As with any review system, there is no exact science behind this number, and as an example, one product graded 7/10 may not necessarily be of precisely equal quality to another product which has received the same grade.

Each review will state the current version number of the game at the time of the review being published. The review is representative of that version of the game and does not necessarily reflect changes that have been made to the game in subsequent updates.

Under no circumstances do we accept payment (in the form of either currency or gifts) from any third party in return for a favourable opinion on a video game or other product.

While we are happy to receive game codes and other physical and non-physical gifts from publishers, we cannot and will not ever let them influence our opinion of any product associated with the publisher on either the MMO Folklorist website or social media channels. Any items received on behalf of the publisher will be stated in all relevant content on our website and social media channels.

We sometimes include opportunities to buy products featured on the site from third-party retailers (e.g. Amazon). We endeavour to make it clear to users of the MMO Folklorist website and social media channels in cases where we receive an affiliate commission from any sales made from these links. We do not allow such links and the monetisation opportunities which they offer to influence our opinions on the product in question.

All MMO Folklorist branded products such as our books, are sold and shipped via third-party services including Amazon and itch.io.
