Star Wars Galaxies Rogue Server Roundup – November/December 2022

Let 2022 forever be known as the year every SWG server embraced farming and Mandalorians.

Here we are at the end of the year, and in Star Wars Galaxies that means one thing – Life Day! As most servers begin rolling out the wroshyr trees, one server has gone out on a limb and invented an entirely new holiday event. This one is giving off a little more of a Thanksgiving vibe than the Christmas-themed Life Day – territory which no other rogue server has tread before.

Meanwhile, two other servers have been busy adding Mandalorian themed content. Along with the recent release of Mandalore content on the Sunrunner II server and new Mando story content coming to SWTOR this month, it seems as though everybody is trying to capture a little bit of the hype as season three of the hit Disney+ series prepares to hit screens early in the new year.

An Empire in Flames (Pre-CU)

Holiday events have been synonymous with Star Wars Galaxies since the first Life Day event back in 2003. Since then, Empire Day, the Galactic Moon Festival, and the Ewok Festival of Love have become staples in the game’s calendar, with many rogue servers choosing to continue their traditions. Now a new event can be added into the mix, as the Empire in Flames server begins its four-week Tanaab Harvest event.

Each week has players undertaking new tasks as they work alongside members of the Tanaab farming co-op to fend off attacks from Norulac pirates. It’s less of a holiday event and more reminiscent of SWG‘s earlier attempts at live events such as the Cries of Alderaan event.

As with other holiday events, players can earn tokens from completing each week’s tasks and these can be traded in for unique items including buffs, cosmetics, houses, ships and droids.

Infinity (Pre-CU)

After many months of additions, the Infinity server has released the final chapter of their Mandalorian theme park. Players can assist iconic characters from the Disney+ show including Greef Karga and Din Djarin himself as you work your way from being a Foundling to a member of the Death Watch.

Alongside the new quests, players can enjoy QoL updates such as a helpful areas loot feature and, oh, you can also now play a version of Wordle in-game … if that’s your thing.

Resurgence (NGE)

Following on from having released the skeleton of their new planet, Dxun, in September, the Resurgence team have begun their efforts to populate it with original content.

Game Update 5.0 adds Pax Vizsla – the Jon Favreau-voiced Heavy Infantry Mandalorian who has become a fan favourite following his appearances in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett – as a new world boss.

Legends (NGE)

The Player Senate convened to discuss their latest round of proposals, with most passing in some form or another. Players can now look forward to new accessories being added to the game, alongside a reintroduction of the B-Wing Survival suit, new additions to the Chronicles system, and city decoration improvements in future updates.

Hidden away in their Life Day update, a mysterious patch note hints at the beginning of the long-awaited Star Viper quest line being added to the game. Following on from the Bespin expansion, this new quest will continue pushing the server’s timeframe forward into the Shadows of the Empire era.

Dark Rebellion (D20)

Curious about SWG‘s radically different roleplay server but don’t know where to start? Well, you’re in luck as server admin Borrie BoBaka has uploaded a new YouTube video offering an overview of how things work over on Dark Rebellion.

ProjectSWG (CU)

Testing continues over on the ProjectSWG server, with Jedi skills now available via the Character Builder Terminals.

Awakening (Pre-CU)

One of SWG‘s longest-running rogue servers celebrated their 8th anniversary in November. To honour the occasion they gave away goodies such as paintings and a badge, held a lottery, and hosted crafting and investigation events.

SWGEmu (Pre-CU)

It’s the end of an era in SWG emulation, as the Basilisk server has wound down for good. This was always an inevitability after the launch of the Finalizer server at the end of last year. Since then the Basilisk population has continued to dwindle as it became ever more redundant.

Having gone live back in 2012, Basilisk was put to rest on 13 November 2022.

This year’s holiday event – Visions of the Past, Dreams of the Future – honours Basilisk’s legacy while also celebrating SWGEmu‘s servers now having been in operation for longer than SOE’s live servers. A huge achievement.
